Getting started
Peas Recorder records on the Apple Watch and plays the day back on the iPhone.
- Open the app on either device. The first screen asks you to link it to an account.
- Tap New account on whichever device you are holding. It shows you a code.
- Write that code down, then enter it on your other device with I have a code.
The code is the only way back to your recordings. There is no email address or password to recover it with, because we never asked you for one.
Common questions
The watch stops recording when I put my arm down
It should not. Peas Recorder starts a workout session to stay awake with the screen off, which is why it asks for Health permission. If you declined that, recording cannot continue in the background. Turn it back on in the Watch app under Privacy & Security → Health.
Why does a recording app want access to Health?
Only to keep the microphone alive while your wrist is down. The app reads no health data at all. It writes the finished session to Health so the time is accounted for, and nothing from Health is uploaded.
My recordings have not appeared on the iPhone
Clips upload when the watch has a connection, so they can lag behind if it has been off Wi-Fi and away from your phone. Pull to refresh, or tap the refresh button in the top right. If a clip still has not arrived after the watch has been on Wi-Fi for a few minutes, email us.
The voices are named wrong, or not at all
Tap a line, then the small person button that appears next to it. You can pick someone you have named before, type a new name, or choose from your Contacts. Once a voice has a name it keeps it, and keeps the same colour everywhere.
A recording says it is locked
It was encrypted with a key that this device does not have. Open the key button in the top right and add the key. We cannot unlock it for you: we do not hold your key, which is the point.
How do I move to a new phone?
Install the app and enter your account code. Nothing else is needed.
Leaving
Both the iPhone and the watch have an Account screen — the person icon in the toolbar on the iPhone, and the small person button on the watch face.
- Unlink this device makes that one device forget the account. Nothing is deleted, and entering the code again brings it all back.
- Delete account permanently erases the account and every recording on it, on every device, including anything a linked watch recorded. It cannot be undone.
Recording laws
Recording rules differ by country and by state, and many places require everyone in the conversation to agree. You are responsible for recording only where you are allowed to. See the Terms of Service.

- An iPhone running iOS 17 or later, to read the recordings back.
